Context & Problem

Food delivery in secondary East African markets like Arusha is largely informal — coordinated through WhatsApp groups and phone calls, with inconsistent dispatch and no structured vendor tooling.

Sosika Delivery Company (registered under BRELA, co-founded with Abbas Hunty) started within the IAA campus and has since expanded to serve wider Arusha, building a digital ordering and dispatch layer suited to local merchant realities and rider logistics.

Architecture & Technical Decisions

Built on Next.js and React with Firebase (Firestore, Auth, FCM, Storage, Realtime Database) for real-time order state across customers, vendors, and riders.

The vendor dashboard was redesigned into a premium UI with a Kitchen Display Mode, tablet POS view, and Kanban order board. The Android client is a TWA built with Bubblewrap and published to the Play Store.

Outcomes & Continuous Iteration

Sosika won the S.M.A.R.T Competition 2025 and the Afroinnovative Youth Competition 2025. Monthly active users grew from 12 in April to 180 in June, with 96–100% checkout-to-order conversion.

The platform still relies heavily on cash on delivery, with an online payment gateway planned. Sosika is now positioning as a broader business-empowerment brand, with food delivery as its first operating pillar ahead of planned expansion into groceries and pharmaceuticals.
